Benjamin and I try to enjoy a wide array of activities; a favorite, for both of us, is baking. Last night, because today was our turn to bring in snack at school, I decided that we'd whip up some "banana cupcakes" which is just banana bread baked in a muffin tin.

Anyhow, while we were adding ingredients to the mixer, Benjamin pointed out that he doesn't like eggs.

Not a newsflash. He doesn't like anything unless there is some way to make it into pizza or chicken nuggets.

Fast forward to picking him up a few minutes ago:

Me: Did you get to be the snack-passer today?
B: Yes! But I didn't eat one of the cupcakes. All of the other kids ate the cupcakes, but I don't like them.
Me: Why didn't you eat one?
B: Because I don't like eggs.

I contemplated getting into the chemistry surrounding baking, ingredients coming together, etc., but just opted out today.

UPDATE, 2:40 PM:

B: Mommy, I'd REALLY like a cupcake. But, with no eggs.
Me: Want me to shake the egg off of it and into the sink?
B: Yes please! Yippee. yum, yum, yum, this is the best cupcake EVER

Ben!

First time writing his name!

I was switching laundry this morning, when Benjamin sat at my desk, and started writing on my notebook. Not being something out of the norm, I didn't say anything until I sat down, and realized that he had written his name!

I am SO proud of him. So insanely proud!

Shameless (?) confession:
Monday, January 11, 2010

A couple of years ago, I posted about liking a Miley Cyrus song. I actually think it was NYE 2007 (my steel trap memory serves me in the most bizarre ways, usually non-functional bizarre ways, anyhow).

Well, there have been at least two other Miley Cyrus songs that Benjamin and I both enjoy when they pop up on the Sirius radio.

I have, however, stooped to an all-time low. I downloaded a Selena Gomez song from the iTunes top 100 list last night.

I am okay with it. I am getting really good at laughing at myself, and quite frankly, it makes a damn good running song. Or car singing/dancing song.

Okay, maybe it wasn't shameless at all. But, I totally am digging the song.

Nostalgia
Friday, January 08, 2010

When I lived in Rochester, back in my single-gal days, I met this amazing group of friends who shared my love of laughing, grilling dinner out every night once the winter subsided, and porch-drinking. I suspect we all still share it, just all over the country now; with some toddlers/pre-schoolers in the mix.

Anyhow, I am in a winter/holiday hangover slump this week, and looked back at some old pictures, and felt the need to share this one to those of you who might not have seen it on FaceBook.

I could use the laughter that inevitably ensued after a few hours (and a few drinks) with this gang (which this picture is not, even close, to being all inclusive of).

Lullabies
Wednesday, January 06, 2010

Last night, while putting B down for bed, I asked him which song he'd like me to sing for him. I offered his current favorites, including Silent Night and You are my Sunshine.

He denied both, and said, "I want 1, 2, 3, 4, uno dos tres cuatro. You know, like the song on your computer."

Hanging head in shame, I am publicly admitting that it's a rap/dance song by a guy named PitBull.

Mortified, but it was good for a laugh.

Cookies, please...
Tuesday, January 05, 2010

Heard from the next room over:

B: Mommy! Can I please have a cookie?
Me: We don't have any cookies.
B: I'd like a sugar cookie.
Me: We don't have any sugar cookies.
B: McDonald's does. We should go and get three sugar cookies from McDonalds. That's a GREAT idea, mommy.
B: Old MacDonald had a farm, e-i-e-i-o. And on that farm he had some sugar cookies, e-i-e-i-o. With a yummy in my tummy here, and some sprinkles there, here some yummy, there some yummy, everywhere cookies are yummy.

We still aren't going to McDonalds. Hilarious song or not. But, A for effort.
