     More fair fun...
Saturday, May 31, 2008

Andrew, Benjamin and I were dancing (um, jumping jacks?) maniacs tonight.

Or, maybe it was only me...

Loving the music!

Good day...con't.
Thursday, May 29, 2008

Things continued to be fantastic this afternoon. Benjamin took a long nap, we went to the mall (which was actually a waste of (insanely priced) gas), and Benjamin was able to play with his little friend Sophia.

We went to our town's annual festival, which kicked off tonight, and rode the merry-go-round a couple of times, had a sno-cone (eeew), and danced to the mid-atlantic's #1 blues band (for 12 years running!) while coloring posters at the VW table.

Here is the bean and I, photo courtesy of A's iPhone (thus the poor quality...):

At the fair...waiting for the carousel

The downside of all this fun is that it's 9:14 and Benjamin is still awake...and for those who don't know, that does NOT mean he'll sleep in tomorrow. It's likely he'll wake up 2 hours earlier than normal...bizarre, I know, but apparently that's how toddlers work.

And tomorrow is Friday. Which makes today even better!

This is what a great morning (for me) entails...
Thursday, May 29, 2008

  • Sleeping (slightly) past 7 am.
  • Andrew working at home for the day, so we get a couple of minutes here and there with him.
  • The sun shining, and the temperature slowly creeping up.
  • Walking to the local, Thursday morning farmer's market.
  • Benjamin enjoying everything around him, announcing "yum, mmmmm, yum, mmm mmm good!" at all of the farm stands.
  • Benjamin enjoying his apple, which went on to occupy him for well over an hour.
  • Chatting with my mom on the walk back.
  • Playing outside for awhile.
  • Reading books with Benjamin, listening to him point out all of the colors.
  • Benjamin going down for a nap, relatively easily, and having time to hop on the treadmill for a nice, fast run!
If our afternoon shapes up to be half as good as this morning, I'll be a very happy person!

Sprinkler fun!
Monday, May 26, 2008

I haven't been able to meet up with the membership person at the pool, therefore haven't gotten our passes yet. Boo.

It's HOT today, so we found another way to beat the heat:

Sprinkler Fun!

Happy Memorial Day! We love long weekends.

Another eye!
Monday, May 26, 2008

Daily conversation with Benjamin:

He pokes me in the eye and says: EYE!
Me: That's right, that's my eye. Do I have two eyes?
Benjamin: No.
Me: Really, what's this? (pointing to eye #2)
Benjamin: Another eye.

He has also taken to coming over to me and saying "I'm steeeenky" when he needs a diaper change. It cracks me up every time. He has the sweetest, highest little voice, ever!

We've basically been living outside the past few days. Here's a shot from yesterday. He played with his water table and some other outdoor toys allowing us to get a ton of yard work done!

Cheese!

This one is after his little tumble yesterday...thus the cut on his chin. Poor kid can't slow down these days. It's 100 mph, 100% of the time!

He is obsessed with my fantastic sunglasses Andrew got me for Christmas.

Benjamin loves Kate Spade, too!

Hopefully I'll finish up a couple more things here and have some house progress pictures, soon!

A couple of pics from B's weekend...
Monday, May 19, 2008

As you may or may not know, this past weekend was the longest stretch of time that I've been away from Benjamin. He and Andrew went north to Maine for a 4-day weekend.

A's cousin was commissioned into the Air Force on Saturday (in Boston) so all of the AF family headed up that way to celebrate.

Anyhow, I got a TON done around the house, and the boys had a blast. Here are a couple shots of B and all of the fun...

Yeah, that's all I've got. Benjamin sings the alphabet...the order isn't really important.

Neither is "f." Right?

Desperately trying to find video camera...

Could someone please explain to me...

Could someone please explain to me how fundraising organizations already have our new phone number?

I haven't even learned it yet!

More outside fun
Thursday, May 15, 2008

Benjamin and I spent the bulk of this afternoon (after a morning of house-projects) outside. We talked to three or four of our new neighbors who stopped by to say hello.

At one point, Benjamin was playing with the hose, yelling "Uh oh, egg!" Over and over and over again...I was trying to figure out what he was saying, because it sounded like "egg," but didn't make any sense.

I walked over to see what he was talking about.

Uh ohhhh, egg!

Suddenly, it made sense!

After that, we pulled out the wagon to head down to the playground. We met another neighbor, and a couple of her kids en route, so that was fun. We also got an invite to the block party down the street. Fun.

Benjamin headed straight for the swings when we got to the playground. That's his favorite thing to do on the playground, and I think he could swing all day long if the opportunity presented itself. I am the same way, so I am happy to oblige (within reason, of course).

Swinging!

Twenty minutes later, he was awfully sleepy:

Swinging!

I convinced him to run around a bit, and he seemed to perk right up:

Playing!

We piled back into the wagon after another 15 minutes on the swings, and headed back up the hill. We bumped into our new, nearly 2 friend Sophia (and her mom). Sophia is obsessed with Benjamin's wagon. She was not pleased when we had to head home.

We're just hanging out, waiting for Andrew to get home. Today was the 2nd day that he took the Metro to work. It's a long commute, but less than if he drove, and at least he can use the time to decompress, etc. The middle of July, when the new office space is expected to be functioning, seems like a REALLY long time from now.

That's about it from here. I have a long list of things to accomplish this weekend, most importantly, figuring out how to get a pool membership for the pool next to the playground!

An update with photos...
Wednesday, May 14, 2008

We've been able to get 2 solid days of outside time in. We're all loving it. After what felt like 10 days of rain, we've been able to explore the new neighborhood on jogs, and check out the very toddler-friendly playground at the pool down the street.

Playing outside!

Benjamin figuring out how to open the gate:

Sweet, rain boots:

I'd like to wear them, NOW! (For the record, they are going back to Target because he freaks out when he has them on his feet):

Is he walking a pretend dog? I think so:

Copying our friends Beth and Jackson, Benjamin got a new golf set this afternoon. It occupied us for at least a couple of hours. Andrew and Benjamin are out playing with it now, too:

Dear Benjamin,
Monday, May 12, 2008

I know it's super-sad that your dad had to work late tonight, but really, it's an hour past your bedtime.

But, you're too stinking cute when you told me, in response to me encouraging you to head to bed, "no no, see daaaahhhd, momma."

But, you are not staying up until he gets home.

Love,
your mom

Happy Mother's Day!
Sunday, May 11, 2008

Ours wasn't even remotely close to what we'd planned for the day, but being able to be with my two boys made it great, plans aside!

We got our internet/cable installed this morning. Benjamin pushed his stroller into the family room, climbed into it, and is enjoying some Little Bear on TV right now.

A's dad is en route from the airport, and we just ordered pizza (that was delivered to our door less than 20 minutes from when we ordered it...HOW is that even possible??) for an early dinner.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the great mamas in our lives! We love you all, and hope you had a great day!

Rooster
Friday, May 09, 2008

Thank you, Rooster, for letting me use your unsecured network. Since Verizon opted out of coming today (our scheduled 8-5 installation was apparently not on the list, afterall, and of course they couldn't make it today), I will continue to use it tonight. And tomorrow until they get here.

Corey at Verizon promised A that someone would be coming tomorrow. But, this was after Andrew laughed at him for telling us the next available opening was on May 22. Um, sure. Seeing how we both work from home.

In other news, we are officially moved. There are a couple of random things back in MD, including the ^&%^(&#%^ motorcycle, but everything will be gathered and brought to VA in the next couple of days.

Unpacking is going well, and I am absolutely psyched about our attic, because I finally have an out-of-sight place for all SIX bins of baby clothes (after I've weeded things out twice...today, an entire garbage bag full of things for goodwill).

Our kitchen is still as disaster, but I imagine that'll be the trend for the next few weeks. We still haven't scheduled our appointment with our contractor's kitchen consultant, so it's really a mess.

Other than that, we're hoping to enjoy a mostly laid-back weekend. I need to find a good place in the area for the boys to take me to brunch on Sunday...

Sorry for the lack of pictures...I haven't found the box with the camera yet.

What day is it?
Sunday, May 04, 2008

We've been busy working on the house. Making some progress (for the most part) and taking a few steps back (in order to achieve the overall goal).

We left on Friday morning, planning to camp out there. We spent all day Friday working; actually, until after midnight. Our friend Steve came over to help us out with some cabinet-hanging, and other odd jobs that we couldn't do with just the two of us. Thankfully, he worked for pizza and a couple of beers. Well, we haven't gotten the bill yet.

We spent our first night in the house. On air mattresses (yes, plural...a grown-up should NEVER share an air mattress with another grown-up, in case you were wondering).

At 9 am on Saturday morning, after a fantastic diner breakfast, we checked into the Marriott down the street. We ended up getting a great deal on a 2 bedroom suite, which worked out nicely for a number of reasons.
First, we decided to have an exterminator come and de-bug the house. The previous owners were a tad (um, a lot) dirty, so it seemed like the best idea. Of course, they were coming right during B's nap, so the initial decision to get a hotel room.

Second, we needed a break. Not a big break, but I can't even say how nice it was to relax for the evening, not have to clean up after ourselves, and to sleep in a bed AND wake up in the same zip code as the house. It was a good decision. And, we didn't have to pay for breakfast since they served it there.

We worked for the bulk of the day today, made some great progress, and headed home around 3.

Tomorrow we go back to meet with the contractor, and then Tuesday is move-day. We have packers coming in the morning, and they load the truck in the afternoon. We'll get everything delivered early on Wednesday. Woot!

Benjamin's feelings on home improvements:

HOW long does this take??

I like this 'hood.

HOW long does this take??

Peace out, homeslice.

Indecisiveness when you are 1 and a half...
Thursday, May 01, 2008

Me: Benjamin, it's time to get ready to go. Which shoes do you want to wear?

B: Geen (green). Booo (blue). dose (those [new brown crocs sent by a friend]).

Me: Okay, which ones?

Which shoes?

It's been 20 minutes, and we're both still barefoot...
