     Happy 11 Months, Benjamin!
Tuesday, July 31, 2007

Today marks B's 11 month b-day. He's getting taller, funnier, more mobile, and more handsome by the day.

His favorite things right now include waffles, walking behind his car, swimming at the pool, playing with his friends, cheese ravioli, waking up VERY early, older ladies, cats and dogs, climbing on his stroller, and bubbles, to name a few.

On his "not so much" list are vacuum cleaners, diaper changes, clothes, bike trailers, bike helmets, being stuck in his car seat, hats, vegetables, and the word "no."

We love him more and more, every day, and continue to remain in shock at how quickly each day with him passes!

BBQ Fun
Sunday, July 29, 2007

We spent the weekend (or most of it) in NY. Andrew took a half-day on Friday, and we spent 10 hours driving a 6 hour drive to spend the night at my grandmother's house in Syracuse. We hung out for awhile, although, for much less time than intended, and hit the hay. She made a deluxe breakfast for us all on Saturday morning, and we left there around 11, to head over to Rochester.

Mel and Erik hosted a fantastic BBQ at their house on Saturday afternoon, with lots of great food, great drinks, and even better company. It was the first time that most of the Rochacha friends had met Benjamin and Andrew, so it was really great for me! I feel SO lucky that the majority of my friends are the type where you can pick up like it's been a week since you've last hung out...NOT years!

The camera came out a couple of times during the afternoon, so here are some random shots, in no particular order.

BBQ!

Benjamin and Elise prefer playing with empty beer bottles over toys.

BBQ!

I am a big geek...

BBQ!

Benjamin swiping Greta's sippy cup. He still doesn't get how to drink out of that type...he's an exclusive straw-sipper.

BBQ!

Greta and Benjamin scooping up as many treats as possible after the Puff-volcano.

BBQ!

A Coppola cork catastrophe (toward the end of the night).

BBQ!

A very tired Benjamin, still in his PJs, en route to Maryland this morning.

BBQ!

In other news, we learned that Benjamin enjoys Soy-dogs, or "not dogs" as we heard them called. He also loves the older ladies.

Thanks to Mel and Erik for having us...sorry we left so early this morning. We had SUCH a nice time, and hope we can make visits happen much more frequently now that we're back on the east coast! It was SO nice to see everyone!

Bubbles!
Monday, July 23, 2007

I was blowing some bubbles in the playroom this morning, and Benjamin never even noticed that there was one on his nose...it was there for about 10 minutes!

I dare you to accuse this child of being unhappy!

In other news, my 60-day grace period with an out-of-state license is up. So, I traded in the old Florida license for one with a crab on it. I had been warned that it would take forever, but we were in and out of there in under 20 minutes...including the wait time. It was awesome!

In case you were wondering, I opted out of getting a driver's license in CO. I would have had to a) acknowledge that I lived there, and b) waddled my pregnant self in (or worse, with an infant) and waited.

Luckily, I never got pulled over when we lived there...

First Haircut!
Saturday, July 21, 2007

We did the first haircut thing today. It went pretty well. The Eastern European stylist had a thick accent, and was kind of funny. Actually, she was pretty mean, but it was kind of funny.

Benjamin was wiggly, but quiet for the majority of his trim. The stylist next to us told us he was being good, as many babies scream and cry. Our lady said, "He is NOT being good." So, there you are. She seemed thoroughly annoyed by him, the entire time. But, she did a good job, so no complaints here.

Anyhow...before, during and after!

Helmet Fashion Show: Part 2
Friday, July 20, 2007

He hates it. The helmet. The trailer. All of it. We're hoping short rides around the 'hood will make him learn to love it, but at this point, we don't hold a ton of faith in it happening any time soon.

In other news, Jonathan and his mom came over for lunch. They brought pizza, too! The boys seemed to enjoy it even more than the moms did!

Here they are, after they tag-teamed us and stole the servin' saver of puffs...they are getting trickier by the day!

New look!
Thursday, July 19, 2007

I turned to my art director friend, Tera, for some guidance on getting started making invitations for B's small birthday bash, and she told me that she does everything in Adobe Illustrator. I can smoothly navigate my way through most things Photoshop, but have been insanely (and irrationally) fearful of Illustrator, for as long as I have been in marketing.

Well, after successfully (not so much) throwing together an adorable (in my opinion) birthday invitation, I decided to take a stab at a new header for the site.

Thanks, Andrew, for helping me with all the techie stuff in the background...I love the new look, and hope everyone else does, too!

Helmet...test 1
Monday, July 16, 2007

If you've met Benjamin, you probably know that he is not a big fan of anything on him. This includes hats, bibs, sunglasses, diapers, shirts, pants...you name it, he has probably tried to take it off. In fact, if he could crawl around naked all of the time, he would.

Anyhow, since he'll be riding around the bike path in his spiffy new trailer, we had to get him a helmet.

I tried it out this morning, and it could have gone much worse than it did. I still need to adjust the straps to make it fit his head a bit more. I think we'll be doing short loops, close to home until he gets used to it!

Weekend fun
Sunday, July 15, 2007

We had a fun and busy weekend. We went to story time at the library, and then to brunch with our new friends. They served up a great brunch with some good southern food. Benjamin, of course, hit naptime right while we were eating, so no seconds for us! We hope to be invited back again, soon.

Last night, Mike, Holly & Elise came over for drinks, dinner, and lots of laughs. Andrew grilled a deluxe dinner of filet, corn and grilled sweet potatoes. Holly brought delicious stuffed mushrooms that she made, and I made up some strawberry shortcake for dessert. The kiddos played for a couple of hours, had some dinner and went to bed. I ended up having a bit too much wine, and paid for that this morning.

Andrew has been dying to get a bicycle. We have been doing some research, and he had basically narrowed down what he wanted. We found a bike shop in Annapolis that sold Specialized, so we hit it up today. They had one of the bikes he wanted, in the correct size, so we ended up getting that. AND, a much less fancy bike for me. They didn't have a baby-trailer that we liked, but Andrew was able to get one at the bike shop down the street from our house. So, of course, we went for a ride this afternoon. It was a blast!

I've been lazy with the camera lately. Benjamin charges toward it every time I pull it out, so the pics are far from good.

Here's B waving...he gets SO excited when he sees someone new, or if we just re-enter a room. How could you NOT smile when you get greeted like this every time you walk in the room!

Hi!

NY again!
Monday, July 09, 2007

Benjamin and I got back from NY late last night. An 8 hour trip took 11 hours because of 3 very stupid construction slow downs.

Some quick notes from the weekend:

  • Went to a great concert in Norwood. For those who do not know, it's a little tiny town in northern NY, and they (they = Joe Liota, Potsdam-ers) bring in some amazing artists. We saw them.
  • Benjamin stayed up FAR too late, but was absolutely hilarious, and played the entire concert.
  • We got to spend a bunch (but not enough) of time with Emily, who was on a much deserved break from school.
  • Benjamin got to spend a lot of time with his Gramma Nikki. And his NY cat, which is also his only cat, since we are pet-less.
  • I finally met Leah's fiance, Pete. We approve.
  • I got to hang out with some of my favorite people in the world for an entire day!
  • I ate a lot of really good food, and had champagne before 2 PM, which is totally cool.
  • Megan spent the night at my mom's house for the first time in over a decade. It was legal for us to have a drink before bed, this time.
  • Megan rode back down to Baltimore with Benjamin and I, so we had lots and lots of time to catch up.
  • I brought the camera, but didn't take one stinking picture.
  • Andrew completed his ENTIRE task list while we were gone!
We had a great weekend, although, we missed Andrew quite a bit. He, however, probably got some sleep, for a change.

I am going to bed any minute now...yes, it's before 8 PM.

Happy Independence Day! We hope you have a safe and fun holiday!

Happy 4th!

Happy 4th!

Don't mind my dopey look...I've been up since 5 am.
